Natural Gestational Diabetes Treatments

By Diane Ball

Many people in today's society are turning away from traditional cures for many ailments and turning to natural alternatives instead of popping pills filled with chemicals from a laboratory. This is especially true when it comes to women that are pregnant and want to keep their baby protected from any drugs that might harm the foetus or harm the mother in any way. Thankfully there are a number of natural gestational diabetes treatments.

For women that suffer from gestational diabetes, herbal medicine is seen as a intelligent and viable way to help treat their condition without filling their bodies with drugs. Some of the possible treatments that are available are as follows:

Bitter Melon, which is sometimes referred to as bitter gourd is a well known herb that is believed to be beneficial to the body. Users of bitter melon believe that the herb helps the body absorb sugars, which is extremely important to those that suffer from hyperglycemia and gestational diabetes. The bitter melon herb has a natural chemical inside of it called germarin, which, when eaten, acts like an insulin injection to the body. Use of bitter melon has been used in India for generations to help treat different kinds of diabetes, including gestational diabetes.

One of the more common herbal treatments in battling diabetes is an increase in the intake of onion and garlic. Garlic has become a very fashionable supplement in the last ten years and it is believed that garlic has many health benefits that weren't known before.

Onion, on the other hand, isn't as widely considered to be a possible cure-all but in studies, onion has been shown to lower the bodies natural blood sugar levels. While simply eating onion or garlic may help lower the body's blood sugar level, to properly treat diabetes, as well as gestational diabetes, it is recommended that a more potent and pure form of onion and garlic be taken, usually in extract form. This way, the user can get a more concentrated dose.

While using concentrated forms of garlic and onion may be more expensive than just going down to your grocery store and buying the produce off the shelf, the cost is considerably less than if you were to go to the drug store and buy drugs.

Another cure that has been around for years for diabetes is magnesium supplements. These are very commonly used among sufferers of type-2 diabetes. It is believed that by adding magnesium to your diet, you can aid in the absorption of blood sugar in the body, just like onion and garlic extract.

The best thing to remember is to check with your doctor before taking supplements or embark on any natural gestational diabetes treatments.
