FAQ: Can I Take Hoodia If I Have Diabetes?

By Patsy Hamilton

When it comes to any medical condition, it is important to check with your doctor before you begin using any new health supplement. The clinical research (meaning the research that involves people and not lab animals) into hoodia dangers is still on-going. Hopefully, this research will address issues such as drug interaction and medical conditions.

Can I take hoodia if I have diabetes? At one time the San people of southern Africa used hoodia gordonii to treat diabetes, but they did not have access to modern day medications. Future hoodia dangers may come to light involving hoodia's affect on medical conditions. There have been a few interested doctors who have carefully followed their patients with diabetes while they were using hoodia gordonii, but this is of course between you and your doctor.

If I am under a doctor's supervision, can I take hoodia if I have diabetes? People who have diabetes have used hoodia gordonii as an appetite suppressant under a doctor's supervision. Possible hoodia dangers are unknown. It is relatively new to the market. It does not appear to have any side effects, but that is why a doctor's supervision is important. If you are taking hoodia gordonii under a doctor's supervision and you do notice unusual side effects, your doctor will be able to tell you if they arise from hoodia use or are unrelated to hoodia use.

Only your doctor can fully answer the question; can I take hoodia if I have diabetes. It is not recommended for use by children, pregnant or nursing women. It is recommended for use by people who are in relatively good health and even then only after consulting with their doctors. All information about hoodia dangers refers to 100% hoodia gordonii products. There may be other dangers associated with hoodia herb combos. To learn more about hoodia gordonii, your doctor can view Dr. Joseph Varallo's experience with his patients who were using hoodia by visiting the Desert Burn website.

There is one important thing that your doctor may want to consider when trying to answer your question; can I take hoodia if I have diabetes. Research at Brown University, using lab animals, showed that hoodia affects the part of the brain which monitors blood sugar levels, as well as hunger and thirst. This could be a factor in the decision making process. We have compiled much information about hoodia dangers at our Hoodia Info Blog and will continue to update the information as news continues to come in. Phytopharm is still conducting clinical research into hoodia dangers and as they release information, it will be posted there.
