Best Health Supplements: Aging, Diabetes, Heart Disease and More

By Patsy Hamilton

With the number of people buying health supplements, aging, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol should be rare, except for aging, of course, which is a part of life, but it may be possible to maintain the quality of your health, as you age. With certain health supplements, heart circulation, energy and strength can be increased. Cholesterol and blood pressure can be reduced naturally. Type II diabetes can be controlled. Public health organizations are really trying to inform people about how to reduce their risk of developing chronic and life threatening diseases. People just need to listen.

According to The State of Aging and Health in America 2007, released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Merck Company Foundation, more than one-third of US deaths are preventable. In the year 2000, smoking, poor diet and physical inactivity were the root causes of almost 35% of US deaths. More and more efforts are being made to help people quit smoking, but improper diet and physical inactivity are primarily the responsibility of the individual.

Physical inactivity is one of the major risk factors for developing heart disease. Improper diet is one of the major risk factors for developing diabetes and heart disease. Physical inactivity and improper diet can lead to obesity, a major risk factor for heart disease, type II diabetes and cancer. By taking certain health supplements, aging, diabetes, heart disease, blood pressure and cholesterol can be controlled. These supplements can also increase energy levels, making it easier to be more physically active. With these same health supplements, heart circulation, energy and strength can be increased, again allowing people to be more physically active.

Many people are unaware of these health supplements, because the majority of advertisements focus on pharmaceutical intervention. Many people believe that the only way to control their blood pressure and cholesterol levels is with prescription medications. With Type II diabetes, things are a little different. Once you have been diagnosed, it may be necessary to take insulin for the rest of your life, but with proper diet, increased physical activity and certain health supplements, you may be able to reduce your need for insulin. Regular testing is still an absolute necessity.

Long term studies are teaching us that prescription medications and surgical interventions come with drawbacks, side effects and may not extend the duration or the quality of a person's life. For many years, the method of choice for relieving the pain and the threat to life of clogged arteries was the surgical insertion of a medical device known as a "stent". Recent long term studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine advised that stent insertion did not reduce the risk of death, heart attack or even chest pain.

Prescription drugs designed to lower cholesterol also reduce the levels of CO Q-10 in the blood stream. CO Q-10 is extremely important for the health of the heart and other muscles. Long term deficiency of CO Q-10 can result in muscle atrophy, which in terms of the cardiovascular system would mean heart failure.

With proper diet, physical activity and natural disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels can be controlled safely, without side effects or drawbacks. With the best health supplements, heart circulation, energy and strength can be increased.
