What complications can you have with gestational diabetes?
Answered By Editor
There are two types of complications.
Firstly, those that may affect your baby.
These may include excess growth, low blood
sugar (hypoglycemia), respiratory distress
syndrome, jaundice, developing Type 2
diabetes later in life, and developmental
problems. It is common for the baby to grow
larger than normal, thus requiring delivery
of the baby before due date or a possible
C-section.
Complications affecting the mother include
Preeclampsia, urinary tract infections, and
developing diabetes in the future.
