Why is alcohol dangerous for a diabetic?
Answered By Editor
A diabetic can consume alcohol, but only in
moderation. Blood sugar levels should be
under control before safely drinking alcohol.
Even then, it is suggested that a diabetic
have a maximum of two drinks.
Alcohol reduces the ability of the liver to
produce glucose, and, hence, takes a long
time for the alcohol to clear out of the
system. Since glucose production is slowed,
low sugar levels or hypoglycemia become a big
risk for diabetics.
